CSOKONA NATIONAL THEATER

Debrecen’s first and largest stone theater is located at Kossuth Street. The romantic-style theater containing Moorish and Byzantine elements was built between 1861 and 1865. The opening performance was Katona József’s drama Bánk Bán. In 1915, it adopted the name of Mihály Vitéz Csokonai, and in 2012 it received national theater status. Well-known actors such as Imre Soós, László Mensáros, László Márkus, Zoltán Latinovits and Géza Hofi started their careers here.

CSOKONAI FORUM

In the fall of 2022, a new cultural space was created in the heart of Debrecen, covering approximately 9,000 square meters, which functions as a multifunctional theater and training center thanks to modern, 21st-century theater technology that meets all needs.

GREAT FOREST OUTDOOR STAGE

The largest open-air theater in the Northern Great Plain region awaits its guests in a magical original environment. Great Forest Outdoor Games offers a variety of genres (theatre performances, serious and pop music concerts, family and garden cinema programs).

DÉRI MUSEUM

Among the permanent exhibitions of the more than 90-year-old neo-baroque building are Mihály Munkácsy’s world-famous trilogy, Christ before Pilate, Golgotha and Ecce homo – these are the museum’s greatest assets. Standing in front of the works of impressive size – more than 4 by 6 meters – you can feel how small a person is and how great the power of art is.

MODEM

The Modern and Contemporary Art Center is the second largest exhibition venue in Hungary. The basis of the collection is the Antal–Lusztig collection deposited at the institution, but the public has also seen the works of Pablo Picasso and Leonardo Da Vinci. The temporary exhibitions present the best of modern and contemporary domestic fine art.
